Internet Contracts and Promotional Pricing Explained

Editorial guide · Updated October 2026

Internet plans can have different promotional periods, price guarantees, equipment charges, and cancellation rules. Read the full offer so you know what may change after signup.

Promotional pricing

A low starting price may last only for a set number of months or require eligibility as a new customer. Find the date when the regular price begins and calculate the expected cost over a year.

Price guarantees are not always the same as a contract

A price guarantee may apply only to the base monthly service, while taxes, fees, equipment, or optional services can change. A service contract may create separate cancellation obligations. Read the exact terms rather than relying on a short marketing phrase.

Equipment and installation

Check whether a modem, router, gateway, or Wi-Fi service is included, rented monthly, or sold separately. Ask about activation, installation, shipping, and technician fees. If equipment must be returned after cancellation, confirm the deadline and accepted return methods.

Discount eligibility

Some prices require AutoPay, paperless billing, a qualifying mobile plan, or a bundle. Work out the cost if you do not qualify or later stop meeting the conditions.

Before you place the order

Review the broadband label where available, service terms, data policies, speed information, and cancellation policy. Save a copy of the offer and verify the final checkout price. If a term is unclear, ask the provider to explain it before agreeing.
